ENVIRONMENTAL MICROBIOLOGY • AMR • ONE HEALTH

Tracing how water carries antimicrobial resistance.

I'm Olayinka Ajongbolo, an environmental microbiologist. My research looks at ESBL-producing E. coli in the surface and underground water that Nigerian households use every day.

ABOUT

From the clinical laboratory to environmental research.

I hold an M.Sc. in Environmental Microbiology from Lead City University, Ibadan, and a B.Tech in Microbiology from the Federal University of Technology, Minna. My career has moved through clinical, medical and biotechnology laboratories, and now includes the role of Senior Scientific Officer at the National Biotechnology Research Development Agency (NBRDA), Abuja.

My central question is simple: how do the water systems people depend on shape the spread of resistant bacteria? My M.Sc. project detected ESBL genes in E. coli from surface and underground water in Ibadan, and I have published on it since.

I'm open to research collaborations, advanced research training, PhD study and research-focused positions.

RESEARCH FOCUS

Three themes, one pathway from water to public health.

Environmental Microbiology

How pollutants affect the water sources used for domestic purposes, and what that means for the microbes living in them.

AMR & ESBL Detection

Resistance patterns and molecular detection of ESBL genes in Escherichia coli from surface and underground water.

One Health & Water Safety

Linking water quality, parasites and pathogens to the health of the communities that use the water.
